Does this matter, at last? Now that this little boy has a face and a name, as well as rope-burns and contusions around his poor neck? Do you care that this is happening to children and adults, and has been for centuries, and it is NOT getting better? Do you care at all? Seriously. Ask yourself and wait for an answer that’s not lies or a knee-jerk. Because black people would love to hear the answer, even though we can already guess what’ll be for most non-black people. The bottom-line will always be, as BEST, some version of: “I don’t care enough to acknowledge or fix it. Not my problem.”
When they get bored with lynching black eight-year-olds, yours may be next, so, from a standpoint of enlightened pragmatism, alone? Start caring. Before there’s no one left to care about YOU. Because it never just stops with skin color.
