If only any Black person, child or adult, got to be this naïve so far into their double digits-numbers. Or naïve into their double digit-years at all. . . .
I tried to comment on the video but Youtube wouldn’t let me. Dunno what’s going on there, but . . . sus AF.
Here’s what I tried to leave:
Mike, they know who Breonna Taylor is. They know Cori Bush is NOT Breonna Taylor. But all Black folks look alike and there’s no real difference between us, soooooo. . . .
That’s the point. That’s ALWAYS the point, much like the cruelty. Expressing anti-Black racism is the entire point, here.
They know and CORI BUSH knows that they know . . . and they know that she knows that they know.
It’s called “keeping THEM in their place,” and white people have been . . . playing that game with Black people for a very long time. Cori Bush has the experience of generations of Black players to inform her coping methods and her strategies. For these KKKlowns, it really is just a mean game but for Cori, it’s being called out and being rallied. They told her who they are and how the game’s going to be played right off — made the first move and now, she unambiguously has their number. She will NEVER forget who these people are.
We NEVER forget. Remembering is survival.
EVERYBODY in those interactions knows who everybody is and where everybody is coming from. All else is the game face, my guy. Ask your Black friends (although . . . Oregon . . . Black folks were basically still illegal there till just last Wednesday).
Anyway, I have good news for you in light of this: If THIS nothing-ass little snub is what it took to break your spirit . . . good news for YOUR spirit is, you are not and will never be a Black person. You don’t HAVE TO BE a Black person. Be glad and count your blessings. But make no mistake — this petty, garbage-ass racism from her, ahem, colleagues? Isn’t startling or huge news or unexpected or soul-shaking. THIS is SOP. SSDD, and other acronyms.
This is Black folks stepping out their door to do their job. This is nothing.
THIS is the tip-top of an iceberg you and most other non-Black people will never see the half of. Lucky you. But don’t absolve these monstrous cretins of their guilt.
Enjoy your silver lining and keep making videos. You’re smart, generally insightful, and funny, as well as one of my faves :-)
The cruelty and anti-Black racism are always the point. Non-Black people . . . you need to get that and metabolize it. Every Black person and child over the age of nine has. And we can’t dismantle this system that benefits EVERYONE but us, by ourselves. The most effective dismantlers will be the ones who LOSE in the dismantling. Or who will see a more level field with fewer privileges reserved for themselves. Making this corner of the world better for Black and non-white people DOESN’T make white people’s world worse. It makes privileges into true rights because they’ll be for everyone.
In the US, BIPOC aren’t enough to move the moral arc of this universe. We’re barely one-quarter of this country. We need the folks who didn’t begin fifty feet behind the starting line to HELP.
This kind of naivete? Is not helping. DO BETTER. BE MORE INTELLECTUALLY CURIOUS AND RIGOROUS. FFS. We can’t do this if we do it alone. There are too many of y’all resisting efforts or being wide-eyed and new (same difference, as far as results go) for that. You have the numbers and the zeitgeist, unfortunately. And BIPOC have all the burden of injustice we didn’t create and from which we have only suffered.
