There's an Aldi's in my stupid-small, Upstate New York town, and it's VERY well-loved. I'm pretty sure my mom likes Aldi's more than she likes ME, which is fair, lol.
Also ... YEAH, about your neighbor. I've met people who weren't racists but who were transphobes. Or people who weren't homophobes, but transphobes. And people who were none of those but absolute ableist dicks regarding any perceived disability, different ability, or impairment. Or who think any invisible issue is faked.
It's proof that bigotry of any kind is learned through direct and indirect teaching, and experience. No one is born with it and it CAN be overcome ... if the person wants to.
Great article and THANK YOU for talking about this and for drawing a line in the sand. If I lived across the Pond, I'd happily give you guys rides to the supermarket. Of course, on the way there and back I'd trash-talk your favorite foods and music because I love a captive audience to rant to/about XD
