This, too. While I appreciate the pride of the author, this piece did fall into that trap of turning Black Americans into poor, lost stepchildren of the world. And we're not. Denigrating Black American history, culture, and struggle--our heroes and martyrs--even by implication is disheartening from a Black scholar.
